The Fellowship in General Dental Surgery (FGDSRCSI) is registrable with the Dental Council in Ireland as an additional qualification.
The FGDS is the ultimate achievement for dentists in Primary Care which marks the attainment of an outstanding breadth and depth of knowledge of both the clinical and non-clinical aspects of Primary Dental Care to the level of a “specialist generalist”.
Holders of the MFD and the MGDSRCSI can undertake further appropriate part-time training (or have completed approved prior learning) and complete the Faculty’s training roadmap in Primary Care Dentistry to enter for the FGDS examination.
There are multiple entry points which allow you to participate in this exciting training pathway in different stages of your practising career and in a flexible manner:
- Holders of the MFD (or equivalent) can begin this process by completing the MGDSRCSI examination
- Holders of the MGDSRCSI will be eligible to sit the FGDS examination having completed further approved part-time training
- If none of the above applies to you, you can begin by completing the MFD (or equivalent).
