Important note: The Faculty of Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland will continue to offer its FFD Specialty Examinations. These examinations are unaffected by the below announcement, as they are offered separately from the Dental Specialty Fellowship Examinations (DSFE), which are provided through an intercollegiate collaboration between the four Royal Colleges.
Intercollegiate Collaboration for the Dental Specialty Fellowship Examinations
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland are now working together to introduce an Intercollegiate approach to assessment. This will cover 10 specialties, supporting trainees to demonstrate the specialist knowledge, skills and capabilities required for progression.
The new Dental Specialty Fellowship Examinations (DSFE) will commence in 2026 and replaces the current Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examinations (ISFE).
The DSFE have announced that they are recruiting for the positions of Board Chairperson and Specialty Exam Board Chair. Further details on how to apply can be found within the job postings.
